Going Green!
We know that delivering safe dental care takes its toll on the environment. This is what we're doing to help:
Digital Technology
Using digital technology for intraoral xrays not only cuts down on the amount of radiation you are exposed to, it completely eliminates the need for harmful processing chemicals. It also allows us to email your films anywhere.
Using digital technology for records means we can easily store and send your information, paper-free.
Amalgam Safety
We have always used an amalgam separator to keep mercury containing metal scraps from going into the waste water. Additionally, because today's restorative materials offer many advantages over the traditional silver amalgam restorations, we place fewer than a dozen amalgams per year. Placing less means removing less in the long run.
Energy Use
We've upgraded to compact fluorescent bulbs and intend to keep choosing sustainable materials and high efficiency appliances as we renew the facility.
Sustainable Material
Shortly after Serenity Dental opened, you may have noticed some changes. We removed the old carpet and replaced it with solid Bamboo flooring. We painted with non-toxic paint. We relaminated the existing cabinets to reuse the materials we already had. You'll see that we are committed to making our new facility just as healthy as it is homey.
Protecting You!
We will never compromise your safety but we do have some choices when it comes to delivering care without cross-contamination.
We can use natural alternatives when possible; like paper tray liners and headrest covers, cotton wipes instead of synthetic poly-cloths.
We can limit the barriers. When plastic is placed over touch-surfaces to decrease cross-contamination, it is necessary to disinfect those surfaces after the barriers are removed anyway. Because this practice results in more plastic in the landfills, you will see that we only barrier the most difficult areas to disinfect (like electrical switches). You can be sure that all other areas we touch (like keyboards) are either touched only with clean, ungloved hands (which never touch your mouth without gloves) and/or they are disinfected before and after use with spray and/or wipes (like xray machines).
